Once you arrive at the office you will be greeted by one of the friendly doctors. You will then sit down with one of the chiropractors for a thorough history and questioning session that allows the doctor to get to know you, the background of your injury, and your expectations for treatment. Then the doctor will perform a detailed chiropractic examination that may include range of motion assessment, orthopedic testing, neurological testing, gait and posture analysis, or x-rays if it is determined to be medically necessary. We do not x-ray every patient and you always have the final decision. If x-rays are deemed necessary, we have an x-ray suite in the office so there will be no need to go to an outside facility.
After the examination is completed your chiropractic will analysis all of the findings and sit down and discuss the findings with you, address any questions or concerns that you might have, and give you treatment recommendations and options. Together you will decide on the proper treatment plan that will work for your particular case. We believe that recovery from back pain is a team effort so you as a patient will play a large role in determining your care in the office. All together, depending on the severity or complexity of your injury, your first visit will last between 30 minutes to 1 hour. If you decide on treatment and choose to begin on the same day, it may take a little longer.
Chiropractic care is a lot like physical therapy treatment in that it is broken up into sessions. Most patients feel relief after the first visit but depending on how long the injury has affected you and its severity, it will most likely take multiple treatments to fully resolve the issue. In the beginning you will need to come in more often in order to get rid of the pain and gain control on the injury. As your pain decreases and your injury improves, you will not need to come in as often. Once the pain is gone you may require a few more visits in order to stabilize the area to prevent future injuries. Many of our patients choose to receive continued maintenance care because they generally feel better after the treatments and wish to stay loose to avoid future injuries. We always recommend this but it is not required.
